Duquoin Mile
Duquoin, Illinois
approx. 1977

This is the year Jimmy Green, his wife Janet, their son JT, Crash, my children Michael and Eric and I went to the Duquoin Mile.
(not to be misinterpreted by anyone... I was not Crash's date.  I barely knew him.)

What a TRIP!!!!

The first picture here is of Jimmy and Jan Green polishing Bettylou before she goes to the Duquoin Mile.  Jimmy was really proud of her.

Pictured below is JT Green on Jimmy's bike waiting for the ride to Duquoin.  Crash, Michael and Eric are in the background.

When we got the the Race track, we set up camp and the party started.  Yes, they actually let us camp on the same grounds as the race tracks.  There was a swimming hole across from our camping area. You can see the fender of my van here.
Some poor soul drowned that night..... they found him the next morning.   I guess he just had 'too much fun'.

Below is my son Eric and Jimmy & Jan's son JT in their tent. My son Michael was somewhere nearby.

Below are some of the thousands of bikes that were rode to this event.  A great event it was as long as you left in one piece.

All night long you could hear the bikes drag racing approximately 30 - 40 feet from our camp.  Every so often you could hear an ambulance taking the loser away.  The racing area was between two speed bumps and if they didn't shut down quickly enough,  KABOOM!!!! They lost it AND their bikes.  But it was fun, though.

Below, if you look very closely, you can see Crash in his sleeping bag between the bikes.  We thought it might rain so he made a make-shift tent out of plastic. :-)

Below is Crash the next morning brushing some of the dust out of his hair.

Crash made a tent out of putting plastic of his and Jim's bikes.
Notice the beer cooler on the back.

Next is Crash getting into his gear in my van.  Notice that no work can be completed at a function like this without a cold Budweiser nearby. ahahhahaha

Below is the race track.  Notice the water all around the inner perimeter of the track.  Must be for water racing of some kind. This track also accommodates horse racing.

There are more pictures to come.......
I haven't looked at them for so many years ..... I have to locate them.  Some are with Jimmy and Jan and the kids.... I was a bit camera shy.  Besides, I took the pictures.
