Louie Run 2002

This year the Louie Run was a lot different.
It was the best Louie Run I had ever been to.....
I met
Sonny Barger!!!

Due to many rumors and the recent problem in with the River Run to Laughlin, Nevada, there was extremely tight security at the Louie Run this year.

Everyone was searched and search and searched.  My husband didn't get searched at the gate but I DID!!!   What is up with that?  They searched my purse, my saddle bags, my tool pouch, my clothing.  Whoa!!
Then when we went into the next gate where the tickets are sold, we got searched again!

We went out the other gate to go see Sonny Barger at the Armory and they searched us at the 1st check point complete with the pat-down and again at the 2nd check point using a metal detecting wand.  At that time, they took Jim's knife and held it until we came back out.  THEN..... they only let in a limited amount of people at a time into the Armory.  It was there that I got the thrill of my life.  I not only got to shake hands with Sonny Barger but I also got to have my picture taken sitting next to him (at no extra charge).  He put his arm around me and leaned towards me to make sure it was a good picture.  WOWWWWW!!!!!

He was sooooo nice.

There was a little boy and his daddy in front of Jim and I and Sonny took the time to explain to him about the trach in his neck and why it happened.  He advised the little boy to not smoke cigarettes.

After he signed the little boy's (Clarence "C. J.") book, he let the little guy sit next to him and I let the guy taking the pictures use my camera to take his picture with Sonny.

Next was a nice couple behind us... I let the picture guy use my camera again to take their Lynda's picture.

By the way.....I am reading his books (I bought both of them) and he was a pretty rough character in his day.  May still be... I don't know and I don't care.  He is a legend and it has been my dream to meet him and today my dream came true.  And that is that!!!!!

After we were finished with the book signing and picture taking..... We walked back through both of the check points at the Armory and Jim got his knife back only to be taken again by they law at the entrance to the Louie Run party.  Talk about secure.  It would have taken a magician to get any weapons into this place.

We noticed several people turning back and not going to the Louie Run this year.  We figured they must have been 'packing' or had 'other things' that they didn't want detected.  :-)

It took us 4 hours to get into the fair grounds due to the searching of almost everyone that entered.  We go EVERY year and I didn't mind the wait.  They bikes got kind of hot but we survived.

Anyway... back at the party..... We got back in just in time to catch the Ceremony.  That is why I go in the first place.  The ceremony was the same as always but it is just the idea that we go to experience it every year.  Kind of a ritual before the bike riding season begins.

The following picture was ran backwards... I did it in a hurry.  Will reverse it later.

If it doesn't show up..... It will at a later date.  I had to do some editing to the file.

PICTURE MISSING.  Will be replaced as soon as I get back to Ohio.  SW

We walked around and saw a few friends from Conneaut.... Kenny Wortman, Kenny Barr and a few others.

Then we saw Larry from Larry's Leathers.  We signed his "Lemon' van.  I bought a Betty Boop tee shirt with Betty riding a Harley.  Larry signed it.

We left after that... stopped at a bar on the way home and thus ended a day I will never forget.
