STURGIS 1997 This is the year that I FINALLY made it to Sturgis...... This is the year my bike BLEW UP on the way to Sturgis..... (bummer) I had never been to Sturgis before and I decided that for my
50th Birthday I would go to Sturgis... Thank goodness for having a husband with his own motorcycle. Between him and our friends, Brad, Cheryl, Bill and Gloria, they loaded up all my gear and we continued on. The mishap was near Galesburg, Illinois and my parents (who are in their 80's) came up from Peoria, Illinois with a pickup truck and loaded the bike up and took it to their house until we could get back and get it. A month later, my wonderful father and my nephew brought old 'Daisy' back to Ohio. It took me two years and help from my great parents to get Daisy back on the road. God Bless Mom and Dad. The following pictures are from the great escapade to Sturgis 1997. First stop is my parent's house in Peoria, Illinois. We all camp out in the back yard of their home which is in a country setting in down in a 'hollow' in the middle of suburbia. Here comes mom and Lynda to see us out in the back yard putting up the tents. Brad striking the pose and showing off his muscles. hahahaha what a 'ham' Next is Daisy (my bike) sitting in the middle of the yard just waiting for someone to pay attention to her and find out what that knocking noise is in her motor. We kind of ........ decided to... uh..... party a little too much to fix a bike. ahahhahha You know the rest of the story. :-( Here is a picture of my dad (front), mom (right) and the rest of us.... Bill & Gloria, Brad & Cheryl, Jim and I, Red & Lynda. We are sitting in mom and dad's back yard where we have pitched our tents for the weekend. This is Brad by his and Cheryl's bikes. This is my non-biker sister Lynda pretending to ride Brad's bike....ahhahaha This is Lynda seeing if perhaps Jim's bike fits better.
On the Road again........ Then on to one of the many campgrounds along the way. I
believe this one is in Minnesota. We left camp the next morning and headed for the Badlands..... Here we are on the side of the road getting some warmer clothing on... It was a little chilly. Then on to the Badlands.... (This picture turned out kind of neat. Notice the rainbow effect in the sky.) Here we are arriving in Keystone, South Dakota........ This is a picture of Keystone,
South Dakota at night. Here is a picture of Cheryl shopping in Keystone, South Dakota
Our Camping site was at Hill
City, South Dakota
We camped out at Cripple Creek Campgrounds Pictured here are from left to
right...
Jim is trying to start a fire.... he likes that kind of stuff.
Here is Jim after he got the fire started.... See how happy he is!
This is a guy we met that was camping
nearby.
Here we are the next morning getting ready to go to downtown Sturgis and see some sights in the Black Hills of South Dakota........ Bill & Gloria went early, early... as they just rode out to get their run pins and then doubled back to Ohio. Long way to go just for a pin. hahahah
Brad and Cheryl say... Are ya ready for this????
We stopped here in Hill City, South Dakota to have breakfast before our long ride to Sturgis... and then on to Deadwood, etc. This is Jim and me (Sharon) arriving in Sturgis. Our friend, Cheryl, took this picture from the back of Brad's bike.
Here is Brad and Cheryl
I have to say that finding a place to park is not easy.... You have to get there early to get a good spot. We parked a few blocks away.
We arrived in Sturgis....A nice person took our picture there and if you look closely you an see the word 'STURGIS' on the hillside. We went into the Rally Headquarters an found this map on the wall. Whenever you get to Sturgis they want you to stick a pin in the area of the town you are from so everyone can see where everyone else is coming from..... The Sturgis 'Hawg'.................. Here is another picture of us.......... we were just roaming around the area and I got someone to take our pictures again. ~sw Below is a view of how crowded it gets in downtown Sturgis
Here is a cool paint job I liked... What a crowded place. We opted to get our 'Run Pins' and patches, etc. and then left to go exploring the area. One of the places was Mount Rushmore. (on video, also)
We're taking a break..... Then back to Deadwood to gamble a bit and eat and then continue on back to mom and dads and then homeward bound. I will be putting more pictures on here as I locate them. :-) When it was time to go home... We stopped back in Peoria at my folks' house and rested up for the trip back to Ohio. It was a great time (except for Daisy never made it to Sturgis) Dad (who was 83 at the time) bless his heart, brought Daisy back to Ohio. And as of 2010... he is still around. :-)
